Imagine being four years into your seemingly new industry career just to find out that you in fact had 14 years of prior experience.
Like many, Carlos Morales of Sumter, South Carolina found himself in this exact spot. But, nevertheless, this did not deter him from taking every opportunity possible. During his time at Clemson, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Mechanization & Business. He worked within Clemson’s College of Agricultural, Forestry and Life Sciences and took on several high-level roles with Clemson Collegiate Farm Bureau.
In addition, he further demonstrated his commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional agriculture by undertaking an extensive line of independent research projects (the more notable ones including “Commercial Banana Plant Growth in the Contiguous United States 8A Growing Zone” and a sustainable ice cream innovation project that brought awareness to a South Carolina ecosystem). In 2019 with a passion for agriculture and a global perspective, Carlos and eleven other agribusiness students were chosen to embark on a transformative study abroad program in Australia, immersing themselves in the commodity futures markets and agricultural sales of New South Wales. During this time, he also chose to take part in an internship where he worked as an intern for Pursehouse Rural, an agronomy and agricultural distribution company.
This experience, coupled with his 14 summers spent working in Puerto Rico, provided invaluable insights into global agriculture and logistics.
Upon graduation, Carlos transitioned straight into his MBA where he studied Entrepreneurship & Innovation. He graduated with honors and a keen focus on negotiations, sales, and entrepreneurial marketing. This sudden change in academic direction came after a chain of pitch competition wins for his first co-owned start-up called Farmies(z). During his Masters, he pitched several new ideas regarding the use of virtual reality in agritourism.
Fast forward to the completion of his MBA in 2022, Carlos had become well-immersed in the Greenville entrepreneurial community. He took on a wide range of projects to stay active during the troubling economic times and fostered his entrepreneurial journey through programs like Furman's GVL Starts.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Carlos mentions that he is an “avid outdoorsman, automotive enthusiast, and matcha tea devotee” and comically notes that he is “more or less” multilingual as he speaks conversational Spanish and obtained two basic Mandarin certifications through SUNY College of Optometry. He brings this same passion and dedication to his work, driving positive change and innovation in the agricultural industry.
As the founder and current agribusiness consultant at Agribond, Carlos now leverages his expertise to empower small to medium-sized businesses in the agricultural sector. He has built an ecosystem of agriculture-related businesses that want to help their community and spearheaded innovative projects alongside his clients.
